Dear Fellow Village Residents,
As Residents for Macedon Village Living continues to act as the eyes and ears for village residents on the topic of the potential Village of Macedon dissolution, the issue that is first and foremost on our minds is; will the leadership for The Village of Macedon & The Town of Macedon bury the hatchet long enough to work together cooperatively to allow the Dissolution Study process to be effective? Village residents deserve quality detailed information from a dissolution study utilizing a $22,500.00 New York State Grant, and anything less will be a direct reflection (positive or negative) on both governmental agencies, as well as the Dissolution Committee. As stated in our first communication published recently in the Courier Journal, this information is absolutely necessary in order for village residents to make an intelligent and well informed decision prior to casting our vote March 18, 2008.
Unfortunately, for those of us that stay up to date with the local political scene, there is no love lost between Mayor Hoteling and Supervisor Hammond, and history has shown us that both elected officials don't play well in the sandbox together, and are traveling in two polar opposite directions as it relates to their individual political agendas and the dissolution outcome. It is our expectation as taxpayers, that Mayor Hoteling guide the Dissolution Committee to provide timely and complete answers to the attached questions, and it is imperative that this information and the financial consequences be provided with the cooperative participation by the Town of Macedon and Supervisor Hammond's office.
The plea from Residents for Macedon Village Living is simply to get your collective acts together and start providing results! Where is the product from a committee that has been meeting since June 2007'? our understanding is that the Dissolution Study should provide comparing and contrasting financial information for the services that are currently provided by the village government to village residents. The Town of macedon's leadership needs to decide what the services and tax consequences will be "if" the village is dissolved and 'if" the Town of Macedon chooses to absorb them?
Mayor Hoteling, Supervisor Hammond and the Dissolution Committee, we need timely answers to the following questions;
Will the the dissolution of the village impact our short-term and long-term tax burden?
Will the town assume responsibility for current services provided and at what cost?
How will services be improved by dissolution?
Will law enforcement be impacted by dissolution?
Will the Town of Macedon provide water & sewer services?
Will the Town of Macedon plow our streets and sidewalks?
Will the Town of Macedon continue to provide brush & leaf pick-up as a standard service to village residence?
Who will provide code enforcement?
Will the Town of Macedon operate and manage the Fire Department?
Will the Town of Macedon combine the two Ambulance Services or dissolve the Village Ambulance Service?
Will the Town of Macedon operate and manage the parks and cemetery?
Will the Town of Macedon hire the existing village employees?
What will happen to Village owned property?
The bottom line is that the clock is ticking with approximately four months until our votes are cast, and it will be
As village residents, we need to keep in mind that making changes for improvement can be beneficial, but we need to know all the facts before we vote away our own small government.
