WOW! I'm excited. The Erie St. relocation project is finally underway. No one knows any better than I how long it has taken, but an age old expression comes to mind: GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT.
It has taken me almost twelve years to realize this dream. Many doors were shut in my face, but I was determined to make it happen as much as you wanted it to happen. All it took was the right person to open the door that finally has put us on the right track. His name is James Brady. He is the County Highway Supeintendent. He wanted to replace the Erie St. bridge and we wanted to put the new road in. We combined the two projects together and the rest is history.
Some of you have been wondering and questioning what would appear to be quite a sharp right turn onto the new road as you come off the bridge. Let me assure you that there will be no sharp turn at all. When the new bridge goes in, it will be set on new abutments which will be located 15 to 20 feet east of the existing bridge. That will align the new bridge to the new road and make for a very nice flow to the traffic light at Rt. 31.
What you are seeing now, with that little short spur coming off the new road, will remain and be the access, off of erie St. to the rear of the three buildings fronting Main Street. Without it, no one would be able to get to the backs of those buildings. The reason being is that the present corner of Erie St. and Rt. 31 will eventually be curbed off.
The
dissolution study is progressing along very well. The committee has met twice with a dissolution attorney out of Albany. We are looking to put it to vote in March.
